UPDATE: WILD PICK NEW SONG
Well, the season-ticket holders have spoken and “Crowd Chant” is returning as the Wild’s goal song during home games at Xcel Energy Center.
It replaces Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy,” which the Wild used as a tribute to Prince during Game 6 of the 2016 NHL playoffs and all of last season.
Original story
Any moment now the Minnesota Wild could announce a new song that will blare after the Wild score a goal during home games at Xcel Energy Center.
It’s the goal song debate of the century, and the choice is being voted on by season-ticket holders, according to The Athletic’s Michael Russo, who adds that the options are Joe Satriani’s “Crowd Chant” and Kaleo’s “Glass House.”
That means Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” is out the door and isn’t coming back.
Minnesota adopted the wildly popular Prince song after Prince died in 2016, debuting it as their goal song during Game 6 of the 2016 Western Conference quarterfinals. They kept for the entire 2017-18 season but are now looking to change.
“Crowd Chant” is a song you’ll undoubtedly know because it’s the goal song the Wild used beginning in 2000 all the way up till replacing it with the Prince hit.
“Glass House” is less familiar to most, but the part of the song we assume the Wild would use is pretty sweet. Give it a listen starting just after the one-minute mark in the video below.
The new (or old) goal song will debut in Minnesota’s home opener Saturday against Vegas. The Wild open the season Thursday at Colorado.
