It wasn’t pretty, but Twins pitcher Mike Pelfrey survived his first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery last May.
Pelfrey gave up three runs on five hits in Tuesday’s spring training game against Toronto.
He told MLB.com that he walked off the mound in the second inning “feeling good”… adding “the first one is always the toughest.”
Pelfrey is way ahead of schedule in the rehabilitation of his right elbow, and a shaky first outing didn’t surprise many.
After all, TwinsCentric blogger Nick Nelson writes that Pelfrey is attempting an unprecedented comeback. If he takes the mound in Minnesota’s opening series against Detroit, “it would be the shortest length of time between a pitcher’s Tommy John surgery and his next MLB start. Ever.”
