The Gophers men’s basketball team continued their winning ways after their stunning upset over Indiana earlier this week with a 73-44 thrashing of Penn State Saturday at Williams Arena, the Star Tribune reports.
The Gophers dominated the Senior Day game throughout, going up 16-o in the first half before carrying a 34-12 lead into halftime.
Trevor Mbakwe led the Gophers with 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Rodney Williams and Julian Welch each added 10.
D.J. Newbill led the Nittany Lions with 15 points.
Coach Tubby Smith’s club improved to 20-9 with the win and 8-8 in the Big Ten.
The team next travels to Lincoln, Neb., to take on Nebraska Wednesday, before wrapping up the regular season Saturday at Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
Mbakwe reflected on his final game at Williams Arena with a heartfelt tweet and photo:
Wow can't believe that was my last time playing at the Barn. I'm going to miss #gophernation… http://t.co/5n4Wm2ewHc
