The Minnesota Wild survived a gut-wrenching two-minute stretch at the end of last night’s Western Conference Quarterfinal Game 4, to even the series with the Colorado Avalanche at two.
Let’s set the stage for you.
The game opened with the Wild on the attack early. And less than four minutes into the game Jared Spurgeon beat Semyon Varlamov.
The Wild briefly extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Charlie Coyle.
That lead didn’t last too long though, as about 30 seconds later the Avalanche pulled back within a goal when Ryan O’Reilly beat Darcy Kuemper to cut the Wild lead to one.
Fast forward to late in the third period. Colorado head coach Patrick Roy pulled his goalie with just over 2:30 to play and his team trailing 2-1. With the extra man on the ice for Colorado, Minnesota’s Jonas Brodin was called for a hooking penalty at the 2:14 mark.
