Joe Mauer’s concussion symptoms flared up and the Twins sent him home to rest on Wednesday, according to FOX Sports North.
“He didn’t have a good day today,” said Twins general manager Terry Ryan. “It’s a concern more than frustration because you’ve got to feel for the guy. He just didn’t feel well today, so we sent him home. This wasn’t a good day. I don’t want to hide that at all. . . . He’s home, and, hopefully, he’ll come back tomorrow feeling better.”
Mauer has missed 21 consecutive games.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire tells the Pioneer Press that he has stopped asking Mauer for progress reports.
“If I see him out there (for batting practice), I see him out there,” Gardenhire said. “I’ve quit asking because not only does he get irritated when you guys ask him how he’s doing, he gets irritated when I ask him how he’s doing. So I just leave him alone, let him go about his business.”
Ryan said late last week that he doesn’t have “any doubt” about Mauer returning at some point this season.
