For that third straight season Kirill Kaprizov has reached 40 goals.
Kaprizov scored his 40th and 42nd goals of the season in Minnesota’s 4-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday afternoon in St. Paul.
The win is a moot point because the Wild could be eliminated from playoff contention as soon as Monday night. For that to happen, Nashville and Vegas each need to earn one more point in the standings. Nashville plays Sunday night and Vegas plays Monday night.
For Kaprizov, he’s scored 40+ goals in three of his four seasons in the NHL. He scored 27 goals in 55 games as a rookie and followed with seasons of 47 and 40 goals in 2021-32 and 2022-23, respectively.
The only other skaters in franchise history to reach 40 goals in a season are Marian Gaborik (42) in 2007-08 and Eric Staal (42) in 2017-18.
