Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Mackensie Alexander, who left the team Tuesday after his father was reported missing, has been booked into a Florida jail on a pending battery charge.
Alexander, who played for the Vikings through 2019 after being selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, is listed in the Collier County Sheriff’s Office jail records, though details of the arrest have not been released.
“My understanding is he allegedly confronted the man who left behind his father, Jean Odney Alexandre, on a berry-picking trip,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said in a report.
Alexander’s 65-year-old father is the subject of a missing person case in Okeechobee County, Florida, where the sheriff’s office said Jean Alexandre and another man arrived in the county on Monday to pick palmetto berries in a prairie.
“The other man left Okeechobee, leaving Mr. Alexandre behind. It is unknown the exact location on the prairie,” the sheriff’s office said.
A search for Alexandre is ongoing and includes the use of deputies, K9 teams, wildlife officers, helicopters and four-wheelers.
Alexander has not been formally charged.
