Northwestern Wildcats 82
Just days after playing one of their best games of the season, the Gopher men’s basketball team played one of their worst, and were blown out by Northwestern 82-58 Thursday night in Evanston, Illinois.
The loss was Minnesota’s 12th straight, the team’s longest losing streak since the 1986-87 season.
1. Splashy start for Wildcats
The Wildcats came out firing and connecting early. Northwestern knocked down eight first half three-pointers, breaking the game open by knocking down open looks from the perimeter early.
Northwestern finished the night with 12 threes, 4 of them from Bryant McIntosh, while Tre Demps hit three others.
2. Dominated by Wildcats
Northwestern won their two games against the Gophers by a combined 49 points. Not only did they come away with the 24 point victory Thursday, but they beat the Gophers by 25 in a matchup at Williams Arena earlier this year.
It’s the first time Northwestern has swept the Gophers since 2006.
3. Offense amiss for Minnesota
Minnesota wasn’t hitting a lot of shots. The Gophers shot just 33 percent from the floor. The effort was even worse from the outside where they went just 4-of-18.
When the shots didn’t fall, the Gophers’ energy level dropped.

The Wildcats came into the game averaging just 68 points a game, but turned Gopher miscues into easy transition points.
