Timberwolves’ guard Brandon Roy says that he considered retirement for the second time in three years — but isn’t ready to give up yet over his troubled knees, Yahoo! Sports reports.
In a statement issued by the Timberwolves, Roy said that he’s weighed all of his options, and that he has “decided to explore additional treatment options and an extensive rehabilitation plan.”
According to Sports Illustrated, Timberwolves president David Kahn said it will take three to four weeks before the success of the treatment can be determined. Kahn added that the team was “hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.”
Roy was not on the floor for Saturday’s shootaround, which drew speculation that his rehab is not going as smoothly as he claimed.
It was the second day in a row Roy was not at practice. Coach Rick Adelman said Roy was out Friday for personal reasons, just one day after completing a full practice. The team indicated it was possible the three-time All-Star could return to the lineup Saturday night against Phoenix.
Roy underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Nov. 19, his seventh procedure in his career to treat chronic knee problems.
Although the team has not made an official announcement, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports and the NBC Sports Network says the odds that Roy will return anytime soon is not likely:
