The Wild let a two-goal lead slip away Tuesday night in their loss to the New Jersey Devils.
The Devils scored three goals in the final period, coming back to cement a 4-3 win. It was just the second regulation loss since Nov. 29 for the Wild, and head coach Bruce Boudreau wasn’t pleased one bit.
After the game he told reporters he thought his team played “stupid” and “dumb hockey.”
Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk made just 22 saves in 26 shots, but it wasn’t Dubnyk’s play that warranted blame.
Judging by his comments, Boudreau was mostly disappointed with how his team played in its own defensive zone. Especially the breakdown that allowed the game-winning goal.
After turning over the puck in their offensive zone, Minnesota allowed an odd-man rush the other way with the Devils eventually cashing in.
The Wild’s bench boss also called out top-line center Eric Staal for his lack of awareness. It was Staal’s line that was on the ice for game-winner.
Wild beat reporter Michael Russo of the Star Tribune said he wouldn’t be surprised if the Wild change up the top line before their next game against the Coyotes on Thursday.
