Former Viking Matt Birk, who announced his retirement last week, is on the circuit telling war stories — including the one where he wanted to “kill” NFL Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp.
Interviewed by Sports Illustrated NFL writer Peter King, Birk said Sapp wanted his head as well.
“That’s the great thing about football” Birk told King. “You go out there and try to kill each other for three hours, then after the game, it’s, ‘Stay healthy, have a great season, love you.'”
Birk, a 15-year NFL veteran, retired from the game after helping the Baltimore Ravens secure a Super Bowl victory over San Francisco.
