The Gophers won’t be playing all cupcakes when they battle their way through the non-conference portion of the schedule this coming basketball season.
The University of Minnesota announced Tuesday that Richard Pitino’s men’s basketball team will play St. John’s in the budding rivalry between the Big East and Big Ten called the Gavitt Tipoff Games. The game will be played at Williams Arena on Friday, Nov. 18.
According to the Star Tribune, the Gophers will also begin a two-year home-and-home series with Arkansas. They’ll meet up in Minneapolis this season and then head to Arkansas in 2017-18.
St. John’s went 8-24 last season while the Razorbacks finished 16-16.
