Washington is in need of running back help since rookie Derrius Guice was lost for the season with a knee injury, and Samaje Parine and Bryon Marshall both suffered ankle injuries in last week’s preseason game against the Jets.
Peterson, 33, got stuck on the bench behind Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram in New Orleans last season, rushing for just 81 yards in four games before being traded to Arizona, where he racked up 448 yards and two touchdowns in six games before suffering a season-ending neck injury.
