Earlier this summer the NHL announced the city of Las Vegas was awarded an expansion team that will begin play in the 2017-18 season.
But more than two months after being granted a team, owner Bill Foley is having trouble picking a nickname for the franchise.
When the team was first announced, Foley expressed interest in the name “Black Knights” as a nod to the Army. Foley is a 1967 graduate of West Point.
However in a recent radio interview, Foley said there was some push-back from West Point and others, so the name was dropped.

Now Yahoo Sports reports that three names have surfaced on SportsLogo.net, all involving the word Hawks: The Desert Hawks, the Red Hawks or the Nighthawks.
The three names have been registered with several domain names owned by Black Knight IP Holding Company, LLC, which is a company owned by Foley.
On Aug. 3, the Las Vegas Sun reported that a name would be chosen for the team in the coming weeks.
