A day after his team’s first victory in Chicago in seven years, Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer says he thinks the team is headed in the right direction.
Blair Walsh booted through a 36-yard field goal as time expired to give the Vikings a 23-20 victory over the Bears – their first at Soldier Field since 2007. It improved their record to 5-and-2 and moved them within a game of the Green Bay Packers for the lead in the NFC North.
“We have a long way to go,” Zimmer told reporters Monday. “I think we’re headed the right direction, rebuilding wouldn’t be my word, we still have a long way to go.”
Zimmer added that he thinks the team is somewhere between learning how to win games and learning how to handle winning – including himself.

After the win Zimmer said he likes the team’s toughness and added during his post game press conference that the victory was just another accomplishment.
“Just another thing to mark in our checkbook, can’t win in Chicago, can’t win on the road, can’t win two divisional games in a row, can’t win in a temporary stadium, keep coming up with them.”
On Monday when asked if he had a new motivational idea for the Rams, Zimmer responded that he did, but said he was advised not to share it.

He didn’t elaborate on where the advice came from, but added that he was sure it would come up by the end of the week.
