Minnesota Wild star defenseman Matt Dumba is helping a rising star in Minnesota’s youth hockey circuit get a chance to develop with some of the best players in the world.
Kalei Forga, a 12-year-old player from Forest Lake, was recently invited to tryout for the 2019 World Selects in France. The April 2019 trip, however, doesn’t come cheap, with the cost to get her and three family members there rising to around $15,000, according to a GoFundMe for them.
Dumba caught word of Forga’s opportunity through Black Girl Hockey Club, and he donated $500 to the account. What’s more, however, is that he promoted the fundraising effort on Twitter to his followers, which helped it reach its goal of $7,500.
In fact, as of Sunday morning, it was up to $8,200 and still rising.
“Go Kalei!,” said Dumba in his tweet. “I had a similar opportunity when I was younger and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of a lot of good people in my community and the sacrifices made by my parents! Tear it up over there!”

Forga currently plays for the Forest Lake Rangers 12UA hockey team.
