It’s the same old song and dance for Ricky Rubio in Utah as he returns to Minnesota Friday night for his first game against his former Timberwolves teammates.
But even though his hair is longer and he’s sporting a big tattoo down his right arm, Rubio’s game remains the same. Take this from the Salt Lake Tribune.
“Rubio has altered the way the Jazz play on the court with his speed and passing, and while he’s still working on his jump shot, the way he’s approached his workload gives Utah every confidence that the 26-year-old will continue to improve.”
Yep, Rubio is “still working on his jump shot” while he’s continuing to dazzle with his speed and passing.
In Rubio’s debut with the Jazz earlier this week he finished with 9 points, 10 assists and five rebounds while making three of nine shots (1-of-5 on 3s). Look familiar? For his career, Rubio is averaging 10.3 points and he makes just over three of every nine shots.
The Salt Lake Tribune’s article reminded us of so many past articles on GoMN.com, like the one in 2016 where Brandon Jennings dared Rubio to shoot, completely disrespecting his shot.

I mean, we literally did a story in 2014 that provided statistical evidence that Rubio, at the time, was one of the five worst shooters in NBA history.
Not to beat a dead horse, so to speak, but it’s becoming clearer than ever that Rubio is who is he is. He’ll put up a big offensive game every so often, but at the end of the season he’s probably going to shoot 35-40 percent from the floor.
There’s a much higher chance Rubio will still get a nice ovation from fans inside Target Center Friday night.
