Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon will miss Friday night’s game in his hometown of Edmonton after he was hit in the face with a puck in the first period of Minnesota’s 3-2 overtime win in Calgary.
Wild coach Mike Yeo didn’t elaborate as to how much time Spurgeon might miss, when discussing the injury with reporters on Thursday.
“I don’t have an answer for that,” Yeo said. “The only thing I have word on is that he’s out for tomorrow.”

According to the Star Tribune’s Michael Russo, it’s believed that Spurgeon sustained concussion-like symptoms after he was struck in the chin by the Mark Giordano shot.
Spurgeon plays on Minnesota’s second defensive pairing with Marco Scandella. He’s scored seven goals and tallied 11 assists this season.
Yeo said the coaching staff would discuss possibly recalling a defenseman from the team’s AHL affiliate in Iowa, or suiting up Stu Bickel against the Oilers. If Minnesota decides to make a move, the team would have to place a player on injured reserve or send one back to Iowa.
According to the Pioneer Press, if the Wild call someone up, it likely would be either Christian Folin or Jon Blum.
