The Twins’ sell-off continues as they have reportedly traded starting pitcher Lance Lynn to the New York Yankees.
The Twins will receive outfielder/first baseman Tyler Austin and right-handed pitcher Luis Rijo. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Twins will pay about $2 million of hte $4.3 million still owed to Lynn this season.
Lynn has struggled with his control this season but has been much better the last few months than he was in April, when he posted an ugly 8.37 ERA. In 15 starts since the end of April he’s posted a 4.12 ERA, including a 3.68 ERA over his last four starts.
Rijo is just 19 years old and was 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA between rookie ball and Class A this season. Austin is 26 years old and made New York’s opening day lineup and played 34 games before being optioned to Triple-A.
In those 34 games he hit .223 with eight homers and 23 RBI.
Twins trade Zach Duke to the Mariners
Left reliever Zach Duke was traded to the Mariners for prospects Chase De Jong and Ryan Costello.
De Jong is a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher, ranked as Seattle’s No. 28 prospect by MlB Pipeline. Costello is a 22-year-old third baseman/first baseman who is hitting .266 with 16 homers, 24 doubles and 70 RBIs in 101 games at Class A.
