Joe Nelson is BTMN’s sports producer who knows his way around the Gridiron, Adam Uren is BMTN’s news producer from the U.K., who spends his time telling everyone how soccer is the much better sport.
Adam is 1-0 after defeating Joe in Week 1 of this fantasy football challenge, mainly thanks to his genius move picking the 2-touchdown Vikings defense (check the bottom of the post for how the scoring works).
Get their picks for Week 2 below (we use DraftKings pricing and the $50,000 limit), but first, some more trash talk.
Joe: “Adam, somehow, defeated me in the first week of this challenge. But the score was close and I feel bad for Adam because of that whole Brexit thing, so call it a freebie for the guy who literally claims he’s from the “Isle of Man.”
Adam: “Joe, you got beaten last week by a British guy who doesn’t even call it ‘football,’ you’re an embarrassment to your profession and your nation.”
Joe’s Team
QB: Drew Brees NO (@ NYG), $8,200: All he does is throw touchdowns, and the Giants give up a lot of them. (Actual: 16pts)
RB: Adrian Peterson MN (v GB), $7,000: In 16 career games against the Packers he’s rushed for 1,760 yards and 13 TD. (1)
RB: LeGarrette Blount NE (v MIA), $4,000: This is a total crapshoot because nobody knows what Belichick will do. Worth the risk. (18)
WR: Brandin Cooks NO (@ NYG), $8,000: He went off for 36 fantasy points last week. (6)
WR: Victor Cruz NYG (v NO), $4,300: Cruz is one of Eli Manning’s favorite targets and Adam is too dumb to pick him. (7)
WR: Travis Benjamin SD (v JAX), $4,400: With Keenan Allen done for the season with an injury, it’s going to be the Rivers to Benjamin show in San Diego. (23)
TE: Eric Ebron DET (v TEN), $3,500: The Titans are terrible and the Lions are going to throw the ball a ton all season. (5)
FLEX: David Johnson ARI (v TB), $7,600: I watched a special about the Cardinals on Amazon Prime and Johnson is the future face of the franchise in Arizona. I’ll take him all day long. (13)
DST: Baltimore (@ CLE), $3,000: The Browns are playing Musical Quarterbacks and I’m feeling good about Josh McCown throwing interceptions. (13)
Total cost: $50,000 Total Score: 102
Adam’s Team
QB: Carson Palmer ARI (v TB) – $6,900: I watched the Cardinals against the Patriots on Monday and was impressed by receiver Larry Fitzgerald. He has a great career ahead of him. (30)
RB: DeMarco Murray TEN (@DET) – $5,700: He played well against the Vikings and Detroit’s D is nowhere near as good, so I’m expecting a score. (13)
RB: Danny Woodhead SD (v JAX) – $5,200: DraftKings rankings is telling me Jacksonville’s run defense is strong, but Danny is pass-catcher, I have him on 2 out of 3 of my regular fantasy teams this year. (2)
WR: Odell Beckham Jr. NYG (v NO) – $9,500: 2nd best receiver in the game against a defense that got torched by Oakland last week. Yes please. (8)
WR: Willie Snead NO (@NYG) – $5,800: He has Drew Brees throwing at him and is cheaper than Brandin Cooks, who Joe stupidly picked as his top receiver whereas I took Odell Beckham. (11)
WR: Stefon Diggs MIN (v GB) – $5,100: He had over 100 yards from Shaun Hill last week, if Sam Bradford is playing I expect the same plus a touchdown against the Packers. Joe hasn’t picked him, which is a sign he lacks faith in the Vikings’ receivers. (24)
TE: Eric Ebron DET (v TEN) — $3,500: Benched him on my PPR fantasy team last week and was kicking myself for choosing Zach Miller instead. (5)
FLEX: TJ Yeldon JAX (@ SD) — $4,700: I actually think this guy is not good, but Chris Ivory is injured, San Diego’s D is not great, and he’ll get all the carries. (3)
DST: Patriots (v MIA) – $3,000: I loathe the Patriots (the Manchester United of American football), but Miami suck so bad and they’re at home. (10)
Total: $49,400. Total score: 106
Last week’s score:
We are using the scoring system from CBS Sports Fantasy standard leagues, which gives 6 pts for a passing, rushing or receiving touchdown, 1 pt per 10 rushing/receiving yard and 1 pt for every 25 yards passed (as well as points for DSTs that limit scores, yardage, pick up fumbles, interceptions etc., and losing points for fumbles and throwing interceptions).
Here’s a link to last week’s teams and scores, Adam beat Joe by a tight score of 129-126, despite Joe having Antonio Brown.
