The three-game winning streak for the Minnesota Timberwolves came to an end Monday night at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks 117-105 at Target Center.
The Wolves hung with the red-hot Hawks through the first half, but Atlanta took off in the second half and left Minnesota in the dust.
The Hawks outscored Minnesota 29-19 in the decisive third quarter that made the difference in the game and changed much of the context of the night.
Al Horford led Atlanta with 28 points, but he wasn’t alone. DeMarre Carroll had a big night, finishing with a career-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Paul Millsap chipped in 19 points and nine boards for the Hawks as well.
Kevin Martin led the Wolves with 21 in the loss. Shabazz Muhammad returned for the Wolves, he finished with 18 points in just 23 minutes of play.
Andrew Wiggins helped the Wolves get out to a quick start. The Minnesota rookie scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half, but like the rest of the Wolves he also cooled off in the second half. It wasn’t a great night for Ricky Rubio either.

The Wolves (11-41) host another one of the NBA’s top teams, Golden State, on Wednesday.
