The public relations staff of the Minnesota Timberwolves is doing an amazing job. First, their campaign to get Kevin Love voted into the All-Star Game as a starter worked out perfectly as Love was named to the Western Conference starting lineup last week. Now, they’ve helped Love and Nikola Pekovic release an album that we can only assume has a chance to win a Grammy Award next year.
“The Bruise Brothers” album was designed by Wolves President of Basketball Operations Flip Saunders with the hopes of convincing 29 head coaches in the NBA to choose Pekovic as a reserve for the All-Star Game. Saunders literally sent each coach a vinyl album “featuring songs created to reflect the strong play by both Pekovic and Love” over the first half of the season.
Songs on the album are unknown, but they reflect their physical style of play.
“I didn’t even know they were doing it until a couple days ago, so it was pretty funny. A good idea,” Love told the Star Tribune. Pekovic added that Saunders promised them extra copies to bring home.
Pekovic is widely regarded as one of the strongest players in the NBA, and if you ask Love, he’ll tell you there isn’t a stronger player.
“He’s the strongest player in the league—in my opinion, it’s not even close,” Love said. “He just gets in there and shoots a very high percentage and rebounds at a high level.”
In 2012 the Wolves allowed fans an inside look at one of Pekovic’s workouts. It’s not a bad way to become a beast.
Being a bruiser on the block isn’t all Pekovic is doing. The 6-foot-11, 290-pound center is averaging 18.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season.
All-Star reserves will be announced Jan. 30. The All-Star game is in New Orleans on Feb. 16.
