As the Minnesota Timberwolves head into a Sunday road showdown in San Antonio, the team continues to be plagued with a lineup derailed by injuries. The team is traveling with only nine healthy players.
The Pioneer Press reports that Malcolm Lee will undergo two surgeries next week. On Monday, the Wolves guard will undergo knee surgery to repair cartilage damage. On Wednesday, he will have a second operation on his right hip. Both surgeries will be performed in New York City.
Lee started 12 of the 16 games he appeared in this season, but was already was projected to miss the rest of the season after learning the extent of his knee injury in December.
Meanwhile the Pioneer Press reports that J.J. Barea might be back for the Wolves’ game Sunday. Barea missed the last two games with back spasms. He has been in Dallas since Wednesday meeting with a back specialist he consulted when he played for the Mavericks.
Reserve guard-forward Lazar Hayward, dealing with flu-like symptoms, is listed as questionable for Sunday.
