The Timberwolves will hope for some better luck in Mexico City this year, than they had during last year’s trip.
Minnesota hosts the Houston Rockets in Mexico City on Wednesday night. Last year, the Wolves were scheduled to host San Antonio at the same venue, but a generator malfunction during warmups sent fumes and smoke spilling into the arena.
NBA Mexico Director Raul Zarrga told The Associated Press that “stricter measures” have been taken to stop it from happening again.
Top-pick Andrew Wiggins is probably the biggest star on the Wolves roster, who will play Wednesday. The Wolves will be without Ricky Rubio, who severely sprained his ankle on Friday night. Rubio’s absence will provide an opportunity for Minnesota’s other first round pick Zach LaVine.
Tuesday was a practice day for both the Rockets and Wolves, but also a day to celebrate the NBA’s Global Games in Mexico City. Here are some tweets from some of the Wolves activities.
