After Friday night’s 95-93 loss to Raptors, the Timberwolves were apparently determined Saturday night not to let victory No. 1,000 slip by coach Rick Adelman again.
The Wolves finally gave Adelman the landmark victory with a 107-101 win over the Detroit Pistons at Target Center.
With the victory over the Pistons, Adelman became the eighth coach in NBA history to reach 1,000 wins.
The Star Tribune says the team surrounded Adelman at the buzzer and the coach grabbed his wife, Mary Kay, kissing her three times as a video tribute played.
Adelman was emotional talking about Mary Kay after the game, following a leave of absence earlier this year to be by her side as she suffered from seizures.
“She had to be here,” Adelman said. “She’s the reason I’ve been doing it all these years.”
J.J. Barea and Nikola Pekovic each had 20 points to lead the Wolves, and Pekovic led the team in rebounds with 13.
Derrick Williams also chipped in 14 points for the Wolves.
The Wolves improved to 29-47 with the win, while the Pistons 25-52.
The Wolves travel to Oakland, Calif., Tuesday to take on the Golden State Warriors.
