The Timberwolves finalized their training camp roster late Thursday night by signing free agent point guard Aaron Brooks.
Who is this guy?
Brooks is a nine-year pro who’s made stops with the Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls.
He spent the 2014-15 season under Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau. So yeah, he’s a Thibs Guy.
Over the course of his career, Brooks has averaged 10 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the floor. He can knock down triples too, sinking 37 percent of his shots from behind the arc.
Does he fit in?
After signing Jeff Teague to be the team’s starting point guard, Minnesota is left with Tyus Jones to back him up. Despite being a first-round pick, Jones has played sparingly in his first two seasons in the NBA and was inactive for 20 games last season.
With Thibodeau rarely playing the Minnesota native, it’s a possibility that the head coach wants a veteran player backing up Teague.
What would his contract look like?
The Timberwolves could only offer the veteran minimum to Brooks, which would be a one-year deal worth roughly $2.1 million.
