The February 6 NBA trade deadline is only two weeks away and Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas has done his part to stomp out rumors that suggest Karl-Anthony Towns could be traded.
“Karl-Anthony Towns is as untouchable as they come,” Rosas told ESPN Wednesday. “He’s the best player on our team and he’s the guy we’re building around. Everything we do is to help him become the best player and to help us become the best team we can be. He’s a special talent that we’re going to do anything possible to help him achieve his highest potential.”
Towns scored 40 points in the Wolves’ 117-110 loss to the Bulls. It was the seventh straight defeat for a Minnesota team that has just five wins and 21 losses since Thanksgiving.
Rosas, who traded guards Jeff Teague and Treveon Graham to Atlanta for shooting guard Allen Crabbe last week, reiterated to ESPN that he’ll continue to be aggressive in looking for ways, possibly through trades, to improve the Wolves.
Towns recently attempted to squash rumors that he could want out of Minnesota if the Wolves don’t begin finding ways to win. He also suggested that fans “think it’s so easy” to win in the NBA, which probably isn’t true for Minnesota fans who have endured, nearly exclusively, losing seasons since 2004.
