The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Wednesday that center Nikola Pekovic has undergone successful debridement and repair surgery on his right Achilles tendon.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson at Ortho Carolina in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Surgeons were attempting to remove some of the damaged tissue in Pekovic’s right ankle. The injury has bothered him since he first signed with the Wolves five years ago.
Last week, the Wolves announced they were shutting Pekovic down for the remainder of the season as the injury continued to bother him. He also missed half of November, all of December and most of January because of the injury.
Following this decision, the team announced he would undergo the surgery.
Pekovic played in a career low 31 games this season for the Wolves. When he was on the floor, Pek averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Since signing a five-year, $60 million contract in August 2013, Pekovic has played in just 85 games, ESPN noted last week that he’s still owed $36 million on that deal through 2018.
In his five year NBA career, Pekovic is averaging 12.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
