It’s not often that a stat can overshadow a 35-point, 22-rebound performance like Karl-Anthony Towns had in the Wolves’ 111-96 win over the Bulls Saturday night, but one did.
And by one, we mean the one shot Andrew Wiggins and Robert Covington combined to make. The duo had a miserable night shooting the basketball, combining to make just 1-of-30 attempts.
Wiggins was 0-for-12 and Covington was 1-for-18 and they combined to miss all 14 of their 3-point attempts. Their rough night dropped Minnesota’s shooting percentage to just 40.8 percent, but if you take away their attempts the rest of the team connected on 41-of-73 shots (56.1 percent).
“I shot my way into it and I’m going to shoot my way out of it,” Wiggins said after the game.
It was the first game in Wiggins’ career that he was held scoreless.
Towns paced the Wolves with his third career game with at least 30 points and 20 rebounds, and he got some help from Derrick Rose (22 points on 9-of-13 shooting) and Dario Saric (19 points, 14 rebounds), who combined for 39 points off the bench.
Former Wolves guard Zach LaVine led the Bulls with 28 points and Jabari Parker scored 27.
The Wolves have now won five of seven games since trading All-Star guard Jimmy Butler to the 76ers.
Minnesota is off Sunday before playing the Cavaliers on Monday.
