With the start of Timberwolves training camp less than a week away, it looks like a major decision on the future of Kevin Garnett is looming.
If Garnett decides to play again it would be his 22nd season in the NBA. He is under contract with the Wolves and due to be paid $8 million. If not it will more than likely signal the end of a brilliant career.
According to the Star Tribune, Garnett will meet with Wolves owner Glen Taylor to discuss his future, but head coach Tom Thibodeau didn’t indicate one way or another if he’ll play a 22nd season.
Garnett was originally drafted by the Timberwolves with the No. 5 overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He was a cornerstone member of the franchise, leading Minnesota to eight straight NBA playoff appearances.
Following the 2006-07 season Minnesota traded Garnett to Boston, where he won an NBA title the next spring. The Wolves re-acquired him in a trade from the Nets in 2015. Since returning to Minnesota he’s played in just 43 games over the last year and a half.
But when he was on the court The Big Ticket still could throw it down.

Over the summer Garnett told Taylor that he’d really like to come back for his 22nd season, he just didn’t know if he could.
NBA greats Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan have already announced their retirements from the game during the offseason. Paul Pierce still hasn’t decided if he’ll play again either.
