If you thought the NFL Draft was crazy, it was nothing compared to the rumor mill during the NBA Draft on Thursday night.
Trades were happening nonstop. Established veterans like Serge Ibaka and Jeff Teague, along with countless draft picks were being dealt all while the Wolves were reportedly engaged in serious talks with the Bulls in a trade involving All-Star guard Jimmy Butler.
ESPN reports that talks eventually died out after early optimism that a deal with Butler and Minnesota’s first-round pick, Kris Dunn, could get done.
“Jimmy’s in and out of the building all the time when he’s in town,” Bulls general manager Gar Forman said, via ESPN. “During the draft, we started getting some texts and saw something on TV that we were in heated talks with somebody. I don’t know what it was saying. We were in no talks with anybody. There was no discussion during the entire draft this evening as far as Jimmy Butler was concerned.”
At the end of the day nothing happened and it appears the Wolves are going to keep Dunn.
The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski called Minnesota a “winner” for holding onto Dunn, and that Wolves boss Tom Thibodeau wanted Dunn all along but didn’t expect him to last until pick No. 5.
