The Minnesota Twins rounded out the three-game road series in Cleveland with a second consecutive loss, putting in their most insipid performance yet as the Guardians achieved a combined one-hitter.
Alex Kirilloff was the only Twins batter to get a hit off Cal Quantrill, breaking up his no-hitter in the seventh inning, with relievers James Karinchak and Emmanuel Clase cleaning up the eighth and ninth innings with few issues.
Joe Ryan registered his first loss of the season, with the two runs scored off hits by Jose Ramirez and Josh Bell in the first inning enough for the Guardians to secure a 2-0 win, and take the series 2-1 against their AL Central rivals.
Ryan’s record moves to 5-1 with an era of 2.45 after he pitched six innings, giving up two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
Quantrill gave up just one hit and three walks across his seven innings, also registering four strikeouts.
The loss moves the Twins to 19-16 and the Guardians to 16-18. The Twins have a day off on Monday before returning home to face the San Diego Padres at Target Field on Tuesday.
