The Vikings quarterback carousel made another interesting turn on Wednesday.
Case Keenum popped up on the team’s injury report and was limited in practice with a chest injury, while fellow quarterback Sam Bradford sat out practice completely.
With Keenum limited and Bradford out, did Teddy Bridgewater receive first-team reps at quarterback?
Bridgewater returned to practice last week for the first time in 14 months – but he’s still technically on the Physically Unable to Perform List. The team has a two-week window to move him to the active roster.
At Monday’s practice, Mike Zimmer made it a point to deny a report from Pro Football Talk that Minnesota didn’t want to play Bridgewater in London because of slippery conditions.
Mike Zimmer is as coy as it comes to the media, so the fact he made an effort to deny a report without anyone even asking about it in the first place means there’s at least a chance – even if it’s small – that Bridgewater could actually play in London.
Now Kyle Sloter is on the team’s active roster and he wasn’t on the injury report, so by default, Bridgewater and Sloter were the only two full participants in practice.
Practice was only open to the media for the first 15 minutes of the 90-minute session, so it’s unclear who took the majority of first-team reps.
Zimmer also clarified on Wednesday that even though Bridgewater has returned to practice, it ultimately will be up to team doctors to clear him.
“I think I know what I’m doing, said Zimmer. “But it’s medical clearance at the end of the day.
The Vikings square off with the Cleveland Browns in London on Sunday and if Keenum’s injury keeps him limited or out of practice, who knows who will start at quarterback.
