Scholarship offers appear to be pouring in for one of Minnesota’s top Class of 2020 football recruits, and that could be the reason behind Aaron Witt reopening his recruitment and de-committing from the Gophers.
Witt, a 6-foot-5 defensive end from Winona, announced Wednesday that he’s taken back his verbal commitment to the University of Minnesota.
“First off I’d like to thank the University of Minnesota for all the things they have done for me in the past year,” Witt announced. “With that being said, I have decided to de-commit from the University of Minnesota and open up my recruitment.”
Witt followed that announcement up with more tweets recognizing other universities that have offered him football scholarships, including North Dakota State, Wyoming, Northern Iowa and Iowa.
According to Hudl, Witt finished his junior season at Winona High School with 70 tackles, including 18 for loss, seven sacks and one interception.
Witt is a three-star recruit, according to 247 Sports, which ranks him fifth among the top 2020 Minnesota recruits.
