Maryland Terrapins 63
Minnesota Gophers 68
The Minnesota Gophers pulled one of the biggest upsets in the country Thursday night when they beat Maryland 68-63 at Williams Arena.
1. Winless in Big Ten no more
Minnesota’s last victory came against Chicago State on Dec. 16th. That’s a span of more than two months during which Minnesota lost 14 straight and started 0-13 in the Big Ten.
The Gophers had been kept it close in a lot of games recently, but hadn’t been able to get over the hump until the No. 6 Terrapins came to Williams Arena.

2. Early threes help Gophers build early lead
Minnesota may have finished 8-of-23 from the three-point line, but the Gophers were knocking them down early and often. The Gophers made 7-of-10 from long range to start the game, building a double-digit lead through the first half.
Shooting is the story all the way so far as Minnesota has hit 7 of 10 threes to take a 28-20 lead.

Nate Mason and Joey King each knocked down three of them. Mason finished with 18 to lead the Gophers, while King added one.
3. Another double-double for freshman
Gopher freshman Jordan Murphy posted another double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Minnesota win.
He finished the night with five offensive rebounds and was 7-of-8 from the free throw line – still nothing was prettier than this first half dunk.
