Maybe it’s not too late for Leslie Frazier and the Vikings to ask Antoine Winfield to put on a purple uniform again.
Winfield’s agent, Ashanti Webb, informed the Pioneer Press that Winfield has yet to file his retirement papers.
Webb explained that she wants to make sure Winfield is comfortable with the idea of retiring before he makes anything official. As for a return to the Vikings, that doesn’t sound very likely.
“Antoine definitely appreciates coach (Leslie Frazier) and some of his best friends in life play on that team right now,” Webb siad. “He was there for basically a decade, so Minnesota will always hold a special place in his heart. But I haven’t heard anything substantive from them to bring back to Antoine.”
The Vikings cut Winfield in a cost saving move in March. He signed on with the Seahawks but was released in late August.
He announced his plan to retire after he was cut by Seattle.
Sean Jensen writes that the Vikings need to give Winfield the same treatment they gave Brett Favre in 2009 — Send players on the team to get Winfield to return to the Vikings’ secondary.
