The return to batting practice didn’t go as either the Twins or left fielder Josh Willingham had hoped.
Willingham cut his batting practice short Tuesday after just a few swings.
The Pioneer Press reports Willingham was “sort of disappointed” that his injured left wrist wasn’t completely pain free while swinging the bat.
Willingham suffered a broken bone in his left wrist after he was hit by a Justin Masterson fastball, and the Twins placed him on the disabled list retroactive to April 6. Originally the team had hoped Willingham would be able to return quickly.
“A bone is one (injury) that’s going to do its own thing,” Willingham said to the Pioneer Press. “When you’ve got a broken bone you know mentally it’s going to take three weeks to heal. You just have to give it time.”
The Twins were hoping Willingham would be ready to start a rehab assignment later this week.
Even when he returns from his injury though, it looks like the Twins plan to keep Chris Colabello, who has emerged in Willingham’s absence in the lineup.
