The University of Minnesota has announced that Friday night’s season opener between the Gophers women’s basketball team and the University of New Hampshire is sold out.
The sellout crowd is a response by fans excited to see Gopher great and four-time Minnesota Lynx champion Lindsay Whalen make her coaching debut, which she’ll do with a roster full of experience from last year’s NCAA Tournament team.
Approximately 14,000 fans are expected at The Barn, and once the final ticket stubs are counted it could break the all-time record for a women’s game at Williams Arena of 14,363, set in 2004 when Whalen, a senior point guard at the time, led the Gophers to a win over Penn State.

Only two other games in the team’s history have drawn more than 14,000 fans, and only eight have eclipsed 13,000.
The game is available to watch online via BTN Plus and can be heard on the radio at 96.7 FM KFAN Plus.
Minnesota went 24-9 last season and has enough respect from national media and coaches that they’re ranked 26th in the preseason polls.
