Doctors diagnosed Minnesota Wild star Zach Parise with a concussion on Wednesday, the Star Tribune reports.
Parise was hurt during Tuesday’s 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but Michael Russo was told that the stick to face Parise took in last week’s loss to the Rangers may have played a role in his concussion.
Parise played periods one and two before sitting out the third against the Penguins. The Wild’s captain did not make the trip with the team for Thursday’s game against Ottawa and he won’t play in their following game in Montreal.
There is a chance he could return for Tuesday’s game in New Jersey against his former team, but head coach Mike Yeo didn’t speculate on the chances of that happening.
According to the Wild’s website, a timetable for Parise’s return has not been set. Forward Matt Cooke (lower-body injury) and defenseman Jared Spurgeon (shoulder injury) won’t play against the Senators, either.
With Parise out the Wild moved the struggling Thomas Vanek to the top line, where he’ll play alongside Mikael Granlund and his former Buffalo Sabres linemate Jason Pominville.
