The Wild scored two quick goals late in the second period to win their home opener 3-2 over the Blues at the Xcel Energy Center Saturday night. Minnesota never trailed to go 2-0 in the early going of the season, NHL.com reports.
1) Charlie Coyle scores two goals
Coyle’s first goal came with eight seconds left in the first period, and gave the Wild an early 1-0 lead.

Late in the second Coyle scored his second goal, just 21 seconds after Zach Parise scored on a power play. The Wild led at that point 3-1.
2) Goaltending battle
Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk was tested in the third period when St. Louis came out firing. Dubnyk made 12 saves in the third period, and 30 in the entire game, to get his second win.
Minnesota had 18 shots on goal in the first two periods against St. Louis goaltender Jake Allen. But in the third, they didn’t get a puck to the net until 14:53 of the third, according to NHL.com. Allen had 16 saves on the night.
3) The Wild have the Blues
The Wild have now defeated the Blues three times in a row, going back to last season’s Stanley Cup Playoff series, which Minnesota won in six games.

A nice video montage in the first period for former Wild forward Kyle Brodziak, who is now a member of the Blues. The 19,000 fans applauded loudly for Brodziak, who was with Minnesota for six seasons.
