The Minnesota Wild are no stranger to big crowds at the Xcel Energy Center, and they plan to use their expected sellout crowd for their home opener to help bring fans out to see the Minnesota Whitecaps debut in the National Women’s Hockey League.
Both the Wild and Whitecaps are scheduled to open the regular season with home openers on Saturday, Oct. 6, so they decided to start the games back-to-back as part of a opening day doubleheader.
The Whitecaps will play the Metropolitan Riveters at TRIA Rink in St. Paul at 4 p.m., with the Wild and Vegas Golden Knights to follow at 7 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.
TRIA Rink, the Wild’s new practice facility and the site for all Whitecaps home games, is located just a couple of blocks from Xcel Energy Center.

The Oct. 6 opener will be the Whitecaps’ first game in the NWHL. Tickets are available now at NWHL.zone/tickets. The opener was originally scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
