The Wild acquired a 20-year-old forward with a knack for scoring goals in exchange for former second round draft pick, Gustav Olofsson.
Olofsson was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens, who in exchange sent Minnesota forward Will Bitten. Bitten was a third-round pick in 2016. He can play center or right wing and last season he scored 20 goals and 44 assists in 62 games for his junior team in the OHL.
We scoured some Montreal blogs and learned that Bitten was a respected prospect with a fairly high ceiling and tenacious style of play. Essentially, the deal was made because Montreal’s system is loaded with centers and wings and they are in needed of depth on defense.
Olofsson played in 41 games last season and wasn’t part of the Wild’s top six defensemen entering Thursday night’s season opener against the Colorado Avalanche.
