Fresh off a masterful effort on a seven-game road trip in which they picked up 10 of a possible 14 points, the Minnesota Wild returned home to be clubbed by the Washington Capitals 5-2 Tuesday night.
But hey, you can’t win them all, right?
More importantly, the Wild used Tuesday night’s return to St. Paul to throw a couple of surprises at Minnesota native Jon Albert, a military veteran who was awarded a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq.
Albert was interviewed between periods by Fox Sports North’s Kevin Gorg, who surprised him with a pair of tickets and a Sunday morning flight to Chicago to see the Wild take on the Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon.
The Wild then brought Albert in for an additional interview with the public address announcer, who one-upped Fox Sports North by giving him another pair of tickets to Saturday’s game between the Wild and Sabres at Xcel Energy Center, a custom Wild jersey and an offer to fly to Chicago with the Wild on Saturday night.
The Purple Heart is awarded to U.S. military members who are wounded in combat.
The combat decoration is also provided to families of those who are killed in action or die from injuries sustained in battle.
