Back from playing in Finland to be with fellow players, Wild captain Mikko Koivu and says he misses the level of competition that you can only find in the National Hockey League, WCCO reports.
Koivu’s recent return to the US comes as the NHL announced that it has canceled all games through Jan. 14 — which constitutes more than half of the season.
Koivu told WCCO that the the players’ dispute with the NHL is about what happens today, but making “sure that the players get what we think is right for us in the future as well.” He also said that he believes the players are “doing the right thing.”
The players reportedly voted Friday in favor of allowing the players’ association the option of filing a “disclaimer of interest,” which would effectively allow the players’ union to dissolve. The move would allow players to file antitrust lawsuits against the league.
