Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise will be a healthy scratch on Wednesday night when they take on the Vegas Golden Knights.
Parise was on the ice during the final moments of regulation in Monday’s loss to the Golden Knights. With Vegas pushing for a game-tying goal, Parise didn’t come off the ice on a line change and logged a shift that lasted 1:33.
While speaking to reporters on Wednesday afternoon, Parise explained that he stayed on the ice to try to help Marcus Foligno get a hat trick.
Parise deflected a cross-ice pass from Max Pacioretty to Mark Stone, who fed Alex Tuch for the game-tying goal with 41.6 seconds remaining. The Wild lost 5-4 in overtime.

“I don’t agree with the decision,” Parise said via Michael Russo of The Athletic. “In my heart, I know I was doing the same thing…it was the ultimate backfire.”
This will be the second healthy scratch of Parise’s 16-year career and his first with the Wild. The 36-year-old has struggled this season, scoring three goals and nine points in 19 games.
Parise is currently in the ninth year of a 13-year, $98 million contract signed in 2012.
