Former Minnesota Gophers standout Mike Reilly is heading back to Minnesota.
With an injury that has Jared Spurgeon doubtful for Tuesday night’s game against the Dallas Stars the Minnesota Wild have recalled Reilly from Iowa.
Reilly has played in four games for the Wild this season, including in a 2-1 victory in Dallas in his NHL debut. The 22-year-old leads Iowa defensemen with 21 points (5 goals, 16 assists) in 40 games this season.
Last year he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award and led all NCAA defensemen in scoring and assists by collecting 42 points (6 goals, 36 assists) for the Gophers.
There’s no real timeline for how long Reilly’s return to the Wild will last, but the injury to Spurgeon, who didn’t practice Monday, doesn’t sound serious.
“Good news on Spurge,” Yeo told reporters Monday. “The good news is it’s just a deep bruise. Bad bruise. Obviously there is some discomfort today and he’s feeling pretty sore. We’re considering him doubtful for tomorrow. But it’s not something long-term.”

To make room for Reilly the Wild have reassigned forward Taylor Graovac to Iowa.
