The Calgary Flames defeated the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night 4-3, in overtime.
After battling back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to tie the game and force o-t, Minnesota lost on a goal from Mikael Backlund, his second of the night.
Dany Heatley had a big game for Wild, he finished with a goal and an assist.
The Flames took the early lead on a goal from Tj Galiardi at the 12:36 mark of the first period.
Minnesota bounced back to even the score when Matt Cooke netted his ninth goal of the season to pull even at one.
Things didn’t stay that way for long though as Dennis Weideman scored off a tip-in to put Calgary back on top at 2-1.
Early in the third period, Backlund scored his 12th goal of the season put the Flames up two. He scored short-handed goal with assists from Mark Giordano and Lee Stempniak.
Heatley pulled the Wild back within one with a power play goal to make it 3-2. Mikael Granlund and Zach Parise assisted. About five minutes later, the Wild pulled even as Keith Ballard tied it up and sent the game into overtime.
In overtime though, it was Backlund again putting the game away for the Flames.
