Minnesota Wild winger Jason Pominville was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Pominville scored 4 goals and added 2 assists to lead the NHL with 6 points last week. His 10 goals this season leads the Wild and is tied for third in the league with Washington Capitals perennial All-Star Alexander Ovechkin.
The Star Tribune reports that Pominville’s four-game streak with at least one goal is the longest of his career since 2008. He can make it five straight games with a goal when the Wild plays the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Pominville’s name could be discussed on a much larger state. USA Hockey general manager David Poile wrote in his blog that if Pominville keeps playing the way he is, he could play himself onto the Unite States Olympic team.
“If he plays well enough, he’s back in the mix,” Poile said in his blog.
