Injuries continue to be a theme of the Minnesota Wild’s season.
The Wild placed goaltender Filip Gustavsson on injured reserve on Monday for a lower-body injury he sustained during Saturday’s 4-2 loss at the Winnipeg Jets.
According to The Athletic’s Michael Russo, Gustavsson will undergo an MRI on Tuesday and he’s expected to be out of the lineup for at least a couple weeks.
The injury is another blow to a Wild team that’s been plagued by injuries all season and is also down star winger Kirill Kaprizov, who suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday’s game against the Jets after taking a cross-check from Brenden Dillon. Kaprizov is expected to be out for a week or two, according to Russo.
The Wild’s top two defensemen, Jared Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin, have both spent time on the injured reserve this season. Matt Boldy, Alex Goligoski, Freddy Gaudreau, Ryan Hartman, Zach Bogosian and Mats Zuccarello all have missed at least two games each to injuries this season as well.
Gutsavsson has a .903 save percentage, a 2.96 goals-against average and a 10-9-2 record as the Wild’s top goaltender this season. With him now on injured reserve, the Wild will rely on veteran Marc-Andre Fleury — who played his 1,000th career game on Sunday — in net for the foreseeable future. Fleury has a .893 save percentage, a 3.16 goals-against average and a 6-6-2 record this season.
