With the Minnesota Wild set to begin training camp Monday, the hockey club announced that Dean Evanson has been rewarded with a full-time head coaching job, ultimately removing the interim label that he took on after Bruce Boudreau was fired.
Evason has signed a two-year contract extension that locks him up through the 2021-22 season.
“I am very excited to announce that Dean Evason is our full-time head coach,” said Wild General Manager Bill Guerin. “Dean has done a fantastic job as our interim head coach and deserves this opportunity. I look forward to watching our team under his leadership going forward.”
Evanson took over for Boudreau on Feb. 14 and coached the Wild to eight wins in 12 games before the season was stopped by the coronavirus pandemic.
There could be more big news in the pipeline, as The Athletic’s Michael Russo reports that top propsect Kirill Kaprizov could sign his 2019-20 contract with Minnesota during a 53-hour span that starts 11 a.m. Monday, with Russo saying he be in St. Paul by Friday.
